Fig. 7 is a partial plan view of the support on which the ring constituting the fixed part of the display of a meter is fixed by clipping.
Figs. 8 to 10a illustrate the steps of fixing the ring constituting the fixed part of the display of a counter on its support.
The present invention relates to a display device having at least one indicator of a physical quantity. This display device is distinguished by the fact that the fixed part of its at least one indicator is removable and interchangeable.
The present invention also relates to an instrument, in particular a timepiece, comprising such a display device.
The invention will be described in the following with reference to the drawings in connection with by way of example a chronograph watch. This chronograph watch comprises a display device formed by a support 1, constituting in this particular case the dial of the chronograph watch, adapted to be fixed on a fixed part of the movement of the watch, generally its turntable, a complication of this watch or the box of this watch. This dial has at its periphery a scale 2 cooperating with a hand hour 3, a minute hand 4 and a second hand 5 pivoted in the example shown in the center of the dial. These hands 3, 4, 5 constitute the mobile part of the time display of the chronograph watch while the graduation 2 constitutes the fixed part of the time display of this chronograph watch.
Fixing the dial on the movement of the chronograph watch is performed in the usual manner.
In the example shown, the display device of the chronograph watch also comprises three indicators, seconds indicator 6, minute indicator 7 and hour indicator 8.
Each of these indicators 6, 7, 8 comprises a ring 9 on which a graduation is affixed and a needle 10 cooperating with the scale carried by the corresponding ring 9. The ring 9 is the fixed part of the display of each of the indicators while a needle 10 is the moving part.
The ring 9 of each of the indicators 6, 7, 8 is fixed by clipping on the support 1 of the display of the chronograph watch so as to be removable and interchangeable.
In other applications the support 1 is the dial of an instrument and has no scale 2. The indicators 6, 7, 8 are then used to display other physical quantities that indications of time measurement, flow rates, pressures etc.
The dial or more generally the support 1 carrying the rings 9 of the indicators 6, 7, 8 is fixed conventionally on the plate 11 of a watch movement or a measuring instrument. This support 1 of the display device may, in other embodiments, be fixed on a fixed part of the mechanism of the watch or the measuring instrument or on the watch case or the instrument .
The ring 9 of the minute indicator 7 is illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5. It has on its upper face a graduation minutes. This ring 9 has a thicker central portion forming a hub 12 whose outer peripheral surface is slightly conical flaring towards its lower face 13. This hub 12 may comprise as shown in FIG. 5a a notch 14. In a variant of the ring 9 the notch 14 has a beveled lower face 15 as illustrated in FIG. 6a. This hub preferably has a conical shape going flaring towards its lower base.
This ring 9 further comprises a recess 16 formed in the outer wall of its hub 12 serving as will be seen later at its angular indexing relative to the support 1.
The rings 9 of the hour indicators 8 and seconds 6 are identical to the ring 9 of the minutes indicator 7 except for their graduation affixed to their upper face, and the angular position of their recess 16 .
At the location of each of the indicators 6,7,8 the support 1 comprises an opening 17 or cut forming an elastic arm 18 whose free end comprises an indexing boss 18a. A portion X of this opening 17 has a radius identical to the radius of the outer surface of the hub 12 of a ring 9. The free end of the elastic arm 18, located opposite or approximately in front of this part X of the periphery of the opening 17 has an inner face having a radius substantially equal to that of the outer face of the hub 12 of a ring 9. The rest position, not elastically deformed of the elastic arm 18 is preferably such that the distance d separating the portion X of the opening 17 of the dial 1 of the inner wafer of the free end of the elastic arm 18 is less than or equal to the diameter of the outer surface of the hub of the ring 9.
To fix removably, the ring 9, on the support 1 is placed on the outer surface of the hub 12 of the ring against the portion X of the opening 17 of the support (Figure 8) and then the arm is spread apart elastic 18 to be placed against the outer wall of the hub 12 of the ring 9. The ring 9 is angularly oriented so that the boss 18a of the elastic arm 18 is housed in the recess 16 of the hub 12 of the ring 9 so as to index it correctly relative to the support and that its graduation is positioned correctly. The elasticity of the elastic arm 18 holds the ring in place in the opening of the support.
In the illustrated example the display device further comprises an eccentric 19, pivoted in the plate of the movement or the measuring instrument and cooperating with the outer face of the free end of the elastic arm for locking the elastic arm in its operating position applied against the peripheral face of the hub 12. Thus the display can be locked which prevents under the action of shocks the elastic arm 18 is deformed and releases the ring 9.
In addition, the eccentric comprises a cap 19a cooperating with an inclined plane 18b of the resilient arm to axially lock the ring when the eccentric applies the elastic arm 18 against the hub 12 of the ring.
FIG. 9a illustrates the ring 9 placed in place, but not yet locked while FIG. 10a illustrates the ring 9 in the operating position and locked by the eccentric 19 applying the elastic arm 18 against the hub 12 of the ring 9.
When using rings 9 having the chamfer 15 the establishment of these rings 9 is further simplified. Just place the hub 12 of the ring against the portion X of the periphery of the opening 17 and then press the ring 9 so that the spacing of the elastic arm 18 is obtained automatically by the action of the chamfer 15 on the internal edge of the free end of the elastic arm 18. In this way the ring 9 is fixed by clipping on the support 1.
To separate a ring 9 from the support just slightly move the elastic arm of the hub 12 of the ring 9 and remove it from the opening 17.
This method of fixing the rings 9 carrying the fixed graduation of a display on a support makes it possible to modify the aesthetic appearance of the display in a simple and fast manner. This also allows in case of deterioration of the display to change only the ring 9 concerned. One can also quickly exchange a ring 9 by another with a different graduation.
The display device comprises at least one indicator whose fixed portion of the display is formed by a ring 9 removably attached, in particular by snapping, on a support. The number and the location of the indicators 6, 7, 8 with respect to the support 1 may vary according to the number of magnitudes to be displayed.
According to the embodiments, the support 1 may be fixed on a fixed part, platinum or bridge, a mechanism, for example a watch movement or a box containing this mechanism for example a watch case. In particular embodiments, said support 1 constitutes the dial of the mechanism or watch movement.
